VJ Czar World’s very first Song of the Week is none other than あなたがいる限り (read as Anata ga Iru Kagiri) ~a World to Believe in~, sung by Canadian diva Celine Dion and J-pop singer Yuna Ito (伊藤 由奈). It is actually a re-recorded version of “A World To Believe In” which is solitarily performed by Dion herself. It became her second single in Japan to support her thirteenth English studio album Taking Chances, and a featured single of Ito’s second album Wish.

あなたがいる限り ~a World to Believe in~ possesses lyrics both in English and Japanese languages. The English parts were written by Tino Izzo and Rosanna Ciciola, while Natsumi Kobayashi did the Japanese parts. It was produced by Kenji Tamai and Grammy Award winner John Shanks who, have worked with acts such as the Backstreet Boys, Ashlee Simpson and Kelly Clarkson, to name a few.

The single started to be realized when Dion heard Ito’s version of My Heart Will Go On which was featured on Japan only released tribute album Tribute to Celine Dion. She got impressed by Ito’s style and eventually, suggested the concept of doing a duet with her. The re-recording took place on October 2007.

It debuted at #1 on the Japanese Oricon singles chart with 11,778 copies sold. After eight weeks, it has sold 24,105 copies. It also peaked on Tokio Hot 100 at #18.

Below are the lyrics of the song.

I’ve seen the tears and the heartache and I’ve felt the pain

I’ve seen the hatred and so many lives lost in vain

And yet through this darkness, there’s always a light that shines through

And takes me back home, takes me back home

[Takai kabe no mukou nani ga atte mo]

{No matter what exists beyond that tall wall}

[Nigetakunai…aruki tsudzukeyou]

{I don’t want to run away…I’ll keep on walking onward}

[Wasurenaide]

{And won’t forget}

You gave me a world to believe in

You gave me a love to believe in

[Ai no tame ni tsuyoku nareru]

{For the sake of love, I can be strong}

[Anata ga iru kagiri]

{As long as I have you}

[Namida de afureru kokoro yorisou youni daite kureta]

{When it looked like my heart would overflow with tears}

[Kidzukeba hitori de wa nakatta]

{If I noticed, I was never alone}

[Kaze ni hi mo, ame no hi mo]

{Even on the windy days, even on the rainy days}

And I see for one fleeting moment

A paradise under the sun

I drift away and I make my way back to you

[Wasurenaide]

{I won’t forget}

You gave me a world to believe in

You gave me a love to believe in

[Nando datte yarinaoseru]

{No matter how many times it takes, it can be redone}

[Ashita ga aru kagiri}

{As long as there is tomorrow}

[Hito wa kizutsuku tabi ni]

{Every time people get hurt}

{The truth is that they’ll be brought closer to an important answer}

You gave me a world to believe in

You gave me a love to believe in

[Ai no tame ni tsuyoku nareru]

{For the sake of love, I can be strong}

[Anata ga iru kagiri]

{As long as I have you}

You gave me a world to believe in

You gave me a love to believe in

[Nando datte yarinaoseru]

{No matter how many times it takes, it can be redone}

[Ashita ga aru kagiri]

{As long as there is tomorrow}

[Anata ga iru kagiri]

{As long as I have you}

[Anata to iru kagiri]

{As long as you’re here with me}

[Ikite yukou]

{Let's keep on living}
