Charice Pempengco's International Stardom

June 8, 2008-June 14, 2008

This week’s “YouTube Videos of the Week” has something to do with my kababayan named Charice Pempengco. Do you have any idea about this girl? If you don’t, it’s a pretty shame on you. How come you don’t? She’s one of the hottest icons to date on YouTube.com, you know. You’ll be missing one-third of your life without knowing her. I guess you better read her simple biography I’ve provided below. The world has just done it. :)

Charice Pempengco, popularly known by her stage name Charice, is a 16-year old Filipina singer who rose to fame through her jaw-dropping performances posted on YouTube. She was born in Cabuyao, in the province of Laguna, Philippines.

At age four, Charice was noticed by her parents to have a powerful voice. Shortly thereafter, she underwent voice lessons. Charice’ singing career began when she reached the age of seven. At her young age, she was already exposed to several local singing contests and later, to competitions airing on national TV such as the defunct Birit Bulilit (IBC), Batang Kampeon (RPN), Bulilit Popstar (GMA) and Junior Star Quest (ABS-CBN). Little Big Star (ABS-CBN), the last contest she joined in only awarded her third place

Charice decided to take a break in music after the dissatisfying result of her last performance. However, a surprising moment came to her when some stranger posted her videos and YouTube and caught the attention of the Swedish record company Ten Songs Production. Last June 2007, she flew to Stockholm to record seven songs to be released digitally.

Since then, Charice’ international popularity skyrocketed. She was then invited by some world’s most famous talk shows and concerts including The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Oprah and David Foster and Friends.

Currently, she’s into negotiations with leading music industry executive Clive Davis for a record deal and contract. Davis was responsible for the success of Alicia Keys and Kelly Clarkson.

If you haven’t seen any of the awesome performances of Charice Pempengco, I’ve embedded my top 3 favorites exclusively for you.

Video #1: This video is a footage of Charice’ first performance on Star King, a famous talent show airing in South Korea, last October 2007. This was her very first international exposure and the one that paved the way to several appearances and offers. Here, Charice performed Jennifer Holliday’s "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going".

Video #2: This next video was taken from the December 19, 2007 episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Here, Charice showcased her talent in singing "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" and Whitney Houston’s "I Will Always Love You". She earned her first standing ovation from the American audience after her performance.

Note: The interview before her performance was a bit funny. But hey, that’s not the talent she’s supposed to show. Never mind that!

Video #3: This last video was taken from Oprah’s May 12, 2008 episode entitled “World’s Smartest Kids”. Here, Charice performed Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing”. Just like what happened on Ellen, she received a standing ovation from the audience as well as from Oprah Winfrey herself.

When News Anchors Freak Out and Couldn’t Stop Laughing Pt. 2

June 1, 2008-June 7, 2008

I have been so hooked up with watching news-anchors-couldn’t-stop-laughing videos on YouTube lately. In fact, I’ve created a post about it under the feature “YouTube Videos of the Week” last week.

But as I reviewed that post earlier today, I noticed that the news anchors featured were all men. Well, that’s quite unfair for all my ladies out there, eh.

Because of that, I decided to have a part two of that post. But now, it’ll be featuring no one but female news anchors. Here it is!

Video #1: Here’s a video clip of The Daily Buzz news anchor Andrea Campbell laughing while Ron Corning reports about the Iraqi freedom. The reason why she laughed was unknown but I have a guess that it’s George W. Bush’ face (take a look at the TV screen beside Ron).

Video #2: This next video features the funny moments of a female weather forecaster of RTL Wetter, a weather report program airing in Germany. Her funny moments began when she started to laugh uncontrollably upon seeing the footage of his co-reporter rather than the weather map.

I wonder why she laughed that hard. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with her co-reporter’s face, excepting the fact that he’s like Prince Charles. :)

Video #3: Save the funniest for last! This last video is about a news anchor who “lost her mind” when she saw the reenactment of her report. Her report was about a man who was attacked by a huge python in South Africa.

This one’s really funny! I swear.

When News Anchors Freak Out and Couldn’t Stop Laughing

May 25, 2008-May 31, 2008

News anchors have a job which is to present compiled materials for a news program. These materials that are to be presented came from reliable sources and are all very significant and factual. As it is such, it needs to be delivered to the audiences/listeners with all seriousness. Thus, it goes out to saying news anchors must be serious.

But do you believe that all humans have sense of humor? As serious as they are, there will be times that news anchors lose control and tend to freak out like they’ve been missing so much fun. Even though they attempt to stop it, they definitely can’t…I guess humans will be humans.

The videos below feature news anchors losing control while they were presenting serious matters. These are all very funny so better prepare your vocal chords for huge laughs!

Video #1: This video shows a male Swedish (I think) news anchor reporting about children’s healthfulness empowerment by a certain county board. As he went on with his report, the footages of Swedish children were simultaneously shown. The footages include some distracting clips of a child shouting in front of another child and a boy playing a piano. The male news anchor saw these and shortly, it created an impact to him and started to create a funny commotion

Video #2: Even the news anchors of the infamous American TV network ABC also got sense of humor! This next video is about the embarrassing moment Will Hernandez’ had experienced on ABC News Now. It happened while he was reporting about Pres. George W. Bush’ reactions regarding on the attacks in Scotland last 2007. I don’t think this report was the reason of his freaking out. I believe it’s not. The cameraman’s face perhaps…

Video #3: After the Swedish and American news anchors, here comes the British! UKTV reporter Laurie Mayer is the feature of this last YouTube video. I don’t want to say more about this. Just check out how Mr. Mayer tripped over his own joke and couldn’t stop laughing. This is the funniest of the three. I mean it!

Models Slip and Fall

May 18, 2008-May 24, 2008

The topic for this week’s “YouTube Videos of the Week” post is all about models slipping and falling on runways. I personally chose this topic for I can see that a lot of internet users seem to be craving for it. Last April 29, 2008, I created a post about the fall of Rachel Smith (the Miss Universe candidate for USA) and unexpectedly, it did achieve considerable traffic. I guess this would be its perfect follow-up!

Video #1: This video is a compilation of super models (quoted and unquoted) slip and fall not only on runways but also on places wherein walking with grace can be done. It’s a bit retro so just bear with the video quality. Anyway, you won’t notice it the moment you started viewing it. The clips are absolutely funny, especially the last one. The background music does make you laugh, too. I never thought Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles” can be such a comedic song. It reminds me of the “White Chicks” movie.

Video #2: I must say that this next video is the funniest of the three. It is a clip of an NBC news program reporting about a model falling twice in a fashion show that took place in Paris, France. A black American news anchor carried out this report and while the footage of the falls was shown, he started to laugh excessively like he couldn’t get over with it. His co-news anchors also started to get tickled by the footage. Even I experienced the same! It’s totally hilarious!

I won’t describe the footage for you. Just watch it and see how it’ll drive you crazy.

Video #3: This third video may either make you laugh or make you feel sorry. It is about a gag program featuring a Bulgarian fashion show wherein six women slipped and fell on the very same runway. Well, that’s quite a great number of victims, isn’t it?

Certainly, the cause of these six accidents is not the models’ carelessness anymore but the runway’s slippery surface. At the near end of the video, you’ll see the utility men trying to roughen the floor a bit. That was totally a dumb act, I may say. It’s just too late. The show’s ending so soon!

Get Electrocuted

May 11, 2008-May 17, 2008

Sorry for this delayed post...

Last April 29, 2008 (which happened to be my 18th birthday), I created a blog post about a Brazilian correspondent who got electrocuted while reporting. It was entitled “Reporter & Electricity”. That post fortunately became one of my most “googled” and most read posts as of this week.

Because of that, I decided to make this follow-up blog post. But this time, I will be introducing not just one but three new electrocution-related video clips. This post, at the same time, is my very first entry under the feature “YouTube Videos of the Week”. Enjoy!

Video #1: Here’s a clip of William, a boy who voluntarily presented himself to try how it feels to get electrocuted using the Lightning Reaction Extreme toy.

Seeing this video makes me want to buy that kind of toy and let an amount of electricity run all over my body. Do you have one at home? May I borrow?

Video #2: This video shows the tragic experience of a California black bear that got electrocuted on top of an electric post. The bear seemed to have lost its way at that time and ended up wandering around a certain suburban community. The cops immediately came to the rescue; however, it had just caused the bear to panic.

Confused and scared at the same time, the bear, hoping to get away from the cops, decided to climb up on an electric post. When the bear was already on top, it accidentally touched a metallic part with flowing electricity. The bear got electrocuted for a couple of seconds but somehow, still managed to grip tightly and prevented its foreseeable fall.

After a few moments, the bear decided to go down. But shortly after the first move, its right leg unintentionally touched the transformer’s livewire, causing it to spark and electrically shock the bear. The bear fell to the ground and was immediately rescued by the cops.

In spite the fact that a huge amount of electricity had struck on the bear’s body, it still managed to survive and live a few more years.

Video #3: Now this one’s a bit funny! This video shows a referee getting electrocuted after attaching his earpiece to probably listen to some sort of music. However, it was very unfortunate for him for the waves that came out from the earpiece were not sound waves but electric waves!
