Backstreet Boys: The Perfect Fan

May 11, 2008-May 17, 2008

Genre: Pop

Mood: Thankful

May be dedicated to: All mothers

Last Sunday, May 11, 2008, people around the world have just commemorated the annual celebration honoring all mothers, nanay, (haha), mama, moms and mommies. I’m talking about the Mother’s Day.

What did you do during that precious day? Did you give something to your mom? A present perhaps? Or a letter? How about a date?

As a son/daughter, I think it is an excellent thing to do one of those things. I mean, your mother was the one who gave life to you, who nourished you, who’ve taken care of you and most especially, who’ve loved you unconditionally. She deserves to be rewarded for all the efforts she exerted just to provide a better life for you, doesn’t she?

If you hadn’t done anything for your mom last Mother’s Day, act something now before it’s too late. Don’t wait for next year’s Mother’s Day just to do it.

In case you don’t have any idea what to offer to her, here’s my very beautiful and unique suggestion.

You may sing to her a song that will touch her heart and make her realize everything she’s done to you was worthwhile. The Backstreet Boys’ “The Perfect Fan” is my #1 recommended song. You may sing it either solo or with the help of your friends or siblings.

“The Perfect Fan” by the way, is this week’s Song of the Week. It was written by one of the Backstreet Boys’ lead singers Brian Littrell and a songwriter carrying a surname Smith. It is the twelfth and last track of the BSB’s third studio album “Millennium” which became the bestselling album of 1999, being certified 13 times platinum in the United States. Though at that time, it had received satisfactory airplay and some music critics believed it has a potential to become a smash hit, this track was never released as a single.

It takes a lot to know what is love

It's not the big things, but the little things that can mean enough

A lot of prayers to get me through

And there is never a day that passes by I don't think of you

You were always there for me

Pushing me and guiding me always to succeed

You showed me when I was young just how to grow

You showed me everything that I should know

You showed me just how to walk without your hands

'Cause mom, you always were the perfect fan

God has been so good

Blessing me with a family who did all they could

And I've had many years of grace

And it flatters me when I see a smile on your face

I wanna thank you for what you've done

In hopes I can give back to you and be the perfect son

You showed me when I was young just how to grow

You showed me everything that I should know

You showed me just how to walk without your hands

'Cause mom, you always were the perfect fan

You showed me how to love (you showed me how to love)

You showed me how to care (you showed me how to care)

You showed me that you’ll always be there (always be there)

I wanna thank you for that time and I'm proud to say you're mine

You showed me when I was young just how to grow

You showed me everything that I should know

You showed me just how to walk without your hands

'Cause mom, you always were the perfect fan

'Cause mom you always were,

Mom you always were

Mom you always were

You know you always were

'Cause mom you always were

The perfect fan

I love you mom
